16 July, Fiesta de la Virgen del Carmen, coastal towns island-wide
One of Mallorca’s most heartfelt summer traditions, the Fiesta de la Virgen del Carmen honours the patron saint of sailors and fishermen every year on the 16th of July. Across the island’s ports and harbours, from Port de Pollença and Port d’Alcúdia to Porto Cristo and Sóller, a beautifully decorated statue of the Virgin is carried in procession from church to harbour, before being taken out to sea aboard a flower-adorned boat, accompanied by a flotilla of traditional fishing vessels. Onshore, the celebrations continue with music, food and fireworks. A window into the soul of the island.

2 August, La Patrona, the Battle of the Moors and Christians, Pollença
Pollença’s biggest annual celebration builds over a week of nightly events towards the grand finale: the Battle of the Moors and Christians on 2 August. From five in the morning, the streets of Pollença come alive as Mallorcans re-enact the legendary battle of 1550, when the town’s hero Joan Mas rallied the Christians to repel an attack by Turkish corsairs. Dressed in white as sleeping Christians or painted as Moorish pirates, residents of all ages throw themselves into one of the most theatrical, chaotic and joyful events on the island.
1-8 August, 44th Copa del Rey MAPFRE, Palma de Mallorca
The Copa del Rey MAPFRE returns to the Bay of Palma for its 44th edition, once again establishing itself as one of the most prestigious sailing regattas in the Mediterranean. Organised by the Real Club Náutico de Palma, the event brings together elite international teams competing across multiple classes under the Balearic sun, with His Majesty King Felipe VI traditionally among those on the water. The race village buzzes with activity throughout the week, and the bay itself offers spectacular free viewing from the Palma waterfront. One of the highlights of The Islander’s sailing calendar.

11-15 August, XXXI Regata Illes Balears Clàssics, Palma de Mallorca
The Illes Balears Clàssics brings some of the most beautiful vintage and classic sailing yachts in the world to the Bay of Palma each August, and this year marks its 31st edition. Hosted by Club de Mar, the regatta is a celebration of maritime craftsmanship and heritage as much as it is a competition, with vessels ranging from true pre-1950s classics to Spirit of Tradition yachts racing across a series of coastal courses. If you’ve ever wanted to see sailing at its most elegant and timeless, this is the week to be down at the harbour.
12 August, total solar eclipse, island-wide
On the evening of 12 August 2026, Mallorca finds itself directly on the centreline of totality for a total solar eclipse, one of nature’s most breathtaking and humbling spectacles and an exceptionally rare event for the island. As the sun sets over the Mediterranean, the sky will darken in a way that no photograph can fully capture. Whether you watch from a clifftop, a hilltop terrace, or the deck of a yacht offshore, this is one of those moments worth building an evening, or an entire trip, around.
