There are moments in sport when everything aligns, the preparation, the conditions, the competitor, and the equipment, and something remarkable happens. On the waters of Palma Bay in March 2026, one of those moments belonged to BMComposites.

When five-time OK Dinghy World Champion Nick Craig stepped into a brand-new hull for the first time in competition at the fourth edition of the BMComposites Trophy, nobody could have scripted what followed. By the final race of the weekend, the new hull, fresh from the BMComposites workshop and making its race debut, had carried Craig to overall victory in one of the most competitive early-season fleets in the class.

Held from 13 to 15 March 2026 at Real Club Náutico de Palma, the BMComposites Trophy has quietly but steadily grown into one of the most anticipated fixtures on the international dinghy calendar. This fourth edition was the strongest yet, with 50 boats competing across the OK Dinghy and Snipe fleets and a start line that included some of the most decorated names in the class, among them current world number one Andy Davis, whose presence alongside Craig set the tone for some intense, high-quality racing. Palma Bay delivered the conditions to match, and the fleet rose to meet them. As Davis himself reflected, “It’s a great vibe, with everyone coming together to enjoy the racing.”

The story of this regatta, however, belongs as much to the boat as to the sailor. The new BMComposites hull is the result of a focused and deliberate development programme, combining CAD design and CFD analysis to identify and refine the areas where competitive advantage is greatest. The emphasis was placed squarely on downwind performance, where, in the OK Dinghy class, races are so often decided. Craig described the result simply and memorably: A real downwind weapon.” To test a prototype of this nature at its very first event, against a fleet of this calibre, and to win, is the kind of validation that speaks for itself.

For BMComposites, the Palma-based marine composites specialists working across high-performance refit, custom development, and technical manufacture for the sailing and superyacht industries, the regatta is far more than a title sponsorship. CEO Mark Branagh competed in the fleet himself, and the debut of the new hull in world-class race conditions, gathering direct feedback from the sport’s finest competitors, marks a significant and exciting step in an ongoing development journey.

The Snipe class added its own compelling chapter, with Víctor Pérez and Lucía Guerrero sailing with impressive consistency to take overall honours, ahead of Jordi Triay and Lluís Mas, with Fernando Rita and Cristián Vidal completing the podium.

With participation growing and the standard of competition continuing to rise, the BMComposites Trophy is establishing itself as a fixture with genuine soul — world-class racing, a spectacular Mallorcan setting, and an atmosphere that brings sailors back year after year. From drawing board to podium in a single weekend. For BMComposites, the journey is just beginning.
