For most people working in yachting, the industry represents opportunity.

A chance to see the world, build a career, support family back home and create a future that might otherwise have felt out of reach.

That is exactly why Tamzin and George hope this story resonates with the yachting community.

Tamzin Gennissen, whose career includes roles on super sail yachts Hanuman, Aquijo and Singularity to name a few, and George Edwards, engineer on SY Halekai, went on a trek in the mountains of Nepal.

They came back with a simple but impactful goal: help create a pathway for a young Nepalese girl named Tarati to access an education and, one day, potentially build a career in the yachting industry herself.

The idea was born thousands of miles from the Mediterranean, high in the mountains of Nepal.

In April 2025, Tamzin and George travelled there in search of adventure. Like countless trekkers before them, they expected challenging climbs, breathtaking scenery and stories to bring home.

What they didn’t expect was to meet a porter named Metri.

Over several days on the trail, they watched him carry heavy loads across steep mountain passes with a quiet determination that never seemed to waver. Despite the physical demands of the job, he remained positive, generous and proud of the life he was working so hard to build for his family.

As the days passed and conversations deepened, Metri spoke about his daughter, Tarati.

Like many young girls growing up in remote parts of Nepal, the opportunities available to her are limited. Access to quality education comes at a cost many families simply cannot afford, making it difficult to imagine a future beyond the circumstances she was born into.

For Tamzin and George, meeting Metri changed the nature of the journey entirely.

What began as a trekking adventure became something much more personal.

They saw a father doing everything possible to create a better life for his daughter and a young girl whose future could be transformed through education and opportunity.

Today, they are raising funds to support Tarati’s education and future development. Their ambition extends beyond school fees alone. They hope to give her access to opportunities that would otherwise remain out of reach, including the possibility of professional training later in life.

As yacht crew themselves, they understand how transformative this industry can be. A career at sea has allowed countless crew members from all over the world to support families, travel globally and build long-term financial independence. Their hope is that one day Tarati might have the same opportunity.

This is not a short-term project or a one-off donation drive.

It’s about creating a genuine pathway for one young girl to build a different future for herself and, ultimately, for her family.

They’re asking the yachting community to help make that happen.

A contribution of €20 may seem small by industry standards, but collectively it can have a significant impact. Their goal is to bring together 250 people willing to contribute at least €20 and help invest in a future that, without support, may never have the chance to unfold.

Sometimes the most meaningful journeys aren’t measured by the miles travelled, but by the people we meet along the way.

For Tamzin and George, Tarati’s story is one of those journeys.
