In today’s world, we are constantly exposed to images and messages promoting personal growth and the growth mindset.
While the concept is generally understood, a critical question remains: how many businesses within the Marine Industry genuinely adopt and exemplify this philosophy?
Kaizen, translating to “change for the better” or “continuous improvement,” is a core methodology at i3 that focuses on making small, incremental positive changes consistently across all levels of the organization. It shifts the focus from sporadic, large-scale overhauls to embedding the practice of daily refinement in every process and task. This philosophy empowers every employee, from front-line staff to leadership, to actively identify inefficiencies, propose minor fixes, and contribute to a culture where challenging the status quo for continuous optimization is an everyday expectation, driving sustainable growth and efficiency.
This philosophy also fosters a sense of humility and patience, reminding us that greatness is not achieved overnight but through dedication and a commitment to progress, no matter how slight.Â
Since its introduction in 2025 it has become part of the identity of everyone at i3.Â

Keel Fin upgrade
In the summer of 2025, S/Y Hummingbird underwent several upgrades to prepare for regatta competition. A significant project was the Keel Fin fairing and trailing edge. This complex task demanded a complete overhaul of the manufacturing processes, requiring the integration of design work, CNC machining for female tooling, the creation of specific manufacturing jigs, and a highly technical installation procedure.
“I3´s collaborative approach and agile attitude to finding new solutions to technical challenges allowed us to push our architect to design something quite unique. The transparent approach really helped us track time and costs ensuring everything was delivered on time and on budget” Â
Josh Hill – Captain S/Y Hummingbird

Upgrades to swim platform and ladder
The fastening mechanism, installed at the start of 2025, was secure but time-consuming, taking several minutes to operate. Crew feedback requested an improved onboard experience. The design team swiftly responded by developing a custom quick-release pin attachment. This upgrade significantly improved functionality and enhanced the overall aesthetic.
“We had a short window in Palma to complete the upgrades and everything was handled professionally with great communication right the way through. When time is a pressure knowing you can trust your supplier makes a big difference”.

Implementing New technology.
In June, i3 received a request from an existing client for port and starboard crew boarding ladders. A significant hurdle was the boat’s unavailability for an on-board inspection, which would typically make manufacturing and installation impossible. However, i3 successfully delivered the project without needing access to the vessel by utilizing innovative 3D imaging and AI implementation processes.
“Really pleased with the quality of finish and fulfilment of brief with minimum fuss”
