And just like that, we’re on the home straight of another year!

As we prepare to wrap up 2026, there’s plenty to look forward to. 2027 will mark 30 years of The Islander! Three decades of carefully curating stories, sharing knowledge and connecting the people who make our yachting community so special.

The future of The Islander is bright. Our team brings tremendous drive, enthusiasm and pride to producing Spain’s only English-language yachting magazine. And we’re far from resting on our laurels. Our ambition is to keep improving our editorial content, bringing you even more original stories straight from the people who live and breathe this industry.

This issue is a perfect example.

You may remember Jennifer Nicholson’s article in a previous edition. Well, that story actually led to her being invited on an expedition to Baja California! Proof that sharing experiences can open doors to entirely new adventures.

Meanwhile, I’ve been on an expedition of my own, sailing through the Northwest Passage aboard a traditional wooden vessel. While I can proudly claim to be the first Belgian to complete the passage on such a boat, I certainly wasn’t the only Islander up there! Of the ten yachts that completed the Northwest Passage this summer, three had Mallorca-based crew aboard. I’ve invited them to contribute to my final report, offering different perspectives on this extraordinary adventure.

Closer to home, the Palma Aquarium Foundation shares the remarkable story of Leo, a sea turtle recovering from devastating injuries caused by a propeller strike. The science, dedication and ingenuity behind his rehabilitation are truly inspiring.

These are the stories we love to tell. Add to that our practical tips and tricks for crew, industry insights, technical expertise and the personalities that make yachting such a fascinating world, and you have an issue we’re genuinely proud to bring you.

But The Islander is about much more than what appears on these pages. Community is at the heart of everything we do. That’s why we hope to see you at one of our upcoming Tune In Thursdays, on the first Thursday of November or January. They’re fantastic opportunities to meet, exchange ideas and strengthen the connections that make our industry tick.

As we head into our 30th anniversary year, expect that community spirit to become an even bigger part of The Islander. In future issues, we’ll be talking about Stay-At-Sea Dads: family men on rotation, as well as the cost of moorings in the Balearics and other subjects that affect our community directly.

In the meantime, connect with us on Instagram @theislandermagazine. Tell us what you think, share your stories and let us know what you’d like to see more of. After all, this magazine is as much yours as it is ours.

Enjoy the final issue of 2026. Here’s to an exciting 30th year ahead!
