HISWA Tour: Heesen Yachts starts on 80m drydock project

Heesen Yachts says demolition of two old production halls starts this month to make room for an 80m drydock. “Yachts are getting bigger and this is our investment in the future,” says Mark Cavendish, the yard’s sales and marketing chief.

Construction of the drydock will start June 15 and take 16 months, Cavendish said.

Separately, he announced the launch of a 50m, full-custom motoryacht. The owner has decided to keep the name of his new yacht confidential until the delivery. The yacht is a steel-hulled, full-displacement motor yacht below the 500gt threshold.

At the upcoming Monaco show, Heesen will showcase its project Nova, a 50m Fast Displacement, full-aluminum motoryacht which the yard calls “the first of a new breed of Heesen yacht.”

It follows the success of 65m Galactica Star, the world’s first yacht with a Fast Displacement Hull Form (FDHF) and boasts spectacular fuel efficiency: 85 litres per hour at 10 knots and 125 litres at 12 knots.

More than half of Heesen’s annual output are yachts equipped with the FDHF which the company’s in-house naval architects developed with Van Oossanen Naval architects.
