Nautor Swan has begun construction of the Swan Alloy 44, the largest sailing yacht ever created by the iconic Finnish shipyard and its first ever aluminium build in its 60-year history.
Hull and deck construction is underway at Gouwerok Shipyard in the Netherlands, where specialists have begun welding the first structural sections, including the keel and engine room foundations. Once complete, the yacht will be transported to Viareggio, Italy, for final outfitting, with launch scheduled for 2028.
The Swan Alloy 44 marks the birth of a new line of aluminium sailing yachts exceeding 40 metres, expanding Swan’s legendary sailing DNA into the superyacht arena. Designed by naval architect Malcolm McKeon, the yacht measures 43.5 metres in length with a beam of 9.45 metres and features a telescopic keel with variable draft from 4.30 to 6.30 metres. The mast is produced by Southern Spars, with sails by Doyle.
Interiors are entrusted to Studio Liaigre, combining innovation, elegance and exceptional livability. The yacht will also feature dual-energy technology, with the goal of achieving full energy autonomy while sailing.
The first hull has been personally commissioned by Massimo Perotti, Executive Chairman of Sanlorenzo. “This is my first sailing yacht, and I feel a special emotion after so many motor yachts,” said Perotti. “For Nautor Swan, this project opens a new chapter — remaining faithful to the values that have defined Swan for sixty years.”
The project reflects the strategic vision guiding Swan’s next phase of growth under Sanlorenzo’s custodianship. To support the commercial launch, Nautor Swan has partnered with brokerage house Edmiston to bring the Swan Alloy range to the global market.
