Community — coming together in unity.

We are currently living in a world where division and polarisation often dominate the narrative. As an admittedly avid social media user (do check out @invisiblecrew while you’re at it!), I’m very aware of how easy it is to feel hyper-connected in the digital space, while at the same time risking missing out on genuine, human connection.

That is one of the key reasons we organise our Tune In Thursdays, held on the first Thursday of May, September, November, January and March. It is also why we are proud to support and promote events within the yachting and expat communities. Our magazine—both online and in print—exists to help keep our community connected and engaged.

Tragically, our community recently suffered a sudden loss. Captain Riccardo Benoni passed away less than a year after marrying Elettra, and just six weeks after the birth of their third child. Riccardo was best known in our community as the captain of S/Y Ammonite.

The community has already come together in a remarkable show of support for Riccardo’s family, but there is still more we can do. A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to help them regain financial stability after this unexpected loss. If you would like to contribute, please visit: https://gofund.me/e591cce24

Recently, one of our community members, Captain Jim Passmore, stepped up to rally industry business owners in a successful effort to salvage the 1909 classic S/Y Owl, which had washed ashore in Palmanova. Be sure to read the interview with Jim in this issue to learn more about this inspiring initiative and how you can get involved.

The Islander wishes you all a safe and successful season, filled with meaningful connections that enrich your lives.

Remember both the privilege and responsibility that come with being part of the yachting community.
