The Royal Thames Yacht Club, with the cooperation of the Real Club Náutico de Barcelona, will run the inaugural Queen’s Cup Superyacht Regatta in September 2015, which will see boats from all over the world gathering in the new luxury Barcelona marina facility.
The event will run from 17th – 20th September for three days of racing and one practice day. The event is sponsored by Marina Port Vell, OneOcean Club, BWA Yachting and William Cook.
Queen’s Cup Barcelona promises to offer top quality racing for cruising and racing boats over 24m (80ft) as well as a full social programme including a gala dinner and crew parties. World class race officials will run up to four races for the fleet over the duration of the regatta which will be governed by the ORCsy handicap system. Warm South Westerly winds promise fantastic racing in this perfect location at this time of year, which means that this regatta is set to be an event not to be missed.
Marina Port Vell, the chosen venue for this regatta, is a world-class home for Superyachts, and is offering free berthing for entrants for the duration of the event. Perfectly positioned in the heart of Barcelona, with onsite five-star facilities, it is the ideal location for yacht owners and crew to base themselves. OneOcean Club is located in the heart of Marina Port Vell, and has luxury lifestyle facilities including bar, restaurant and spa, which will be awaiting owners and guests after a day of racing on the water.
Entries to the Queen’s Cup will be competing for the coveted title and their name to appear on the cup itself, which is an incredible piece of silverware. First awarded to Fiona in 1867 at Queenstown, this stunning piece was made during the height of Victorian silver design, covered in silver gilt with embossed silver detail. It is a truly fantastic piece of silver and history.
Royal Thames Yacht Club was founded in 1775 by the Duke of Cumberland, younger brother of King George III. The Royal Family is still actively involved in the club led by the Commodore the Duke of York. It is the oldest continuously operating yacht club in the world.
RTYC look forward to welcoming the crew and their boats for what is set to be a spectacular event and become a permanent fixture in the Superyacht racing calendar.
