BID FOR A WATCH THAT WENT ROUND THE WORLD AS BRITISH SAILOR IAN WALKER AIMS FOR VICTORY IN VOLVO OCEAN RACE

British sailor Ian Walker is currently eight points clear in the Volvo Ocean Race: the world’s premier offshore yachting race. But you don’t need any sailing skills to bid for a unique IWC Schaffhausen watch, which went around the world.

Charity Stars, the United Kingdom’s leading charity auction site, is offering Walker’s personal IWC Schaffhausen Portuguese Yacht Club Chronograph ‘Ocean Racer’ watch, worn during the current Volvo Ocean Race. The prize also includes the opportunity to experience the race as a member of the crew during the finale in Gothenburg, Sweden.

The winning bidder will be hosted in Gothenburg, Sweden for two nights from 25-27 June 2015 (excluding flights and transfers). Whilst in Gothenburg they will participate in a sailing race on board Azzam, the Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing boat, and receive the one-of-a-kind timepiece from skipper Walker himself.

With its beautifully laid-out silver-plated dial and blued hands and indices, the Portuguese Yacht Club Chronograph ‘Ocean Racer’ is the perfect timepiece. The tradition behind the Portuguese watch family goes all the way back to the precision nautical instruments used by the country’s seafarers to discover the world.

The watch alone is worth just under £10,000 and bidding on the CharityStars website starts at just £7,500 for the opportunity to meet Walker, participate in the sailing race and receive the limited edition watch itself.

Walker is the current skipper for Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing, which currently lies tantalisingly close to a landmark victory. As a result, Walker could make history as the first British skipper to win the overall title, with his watch accompanying him from start to finish

Like a number of top athletes, including Edwin Moses and Boris Becker,

Walker supports the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation, which uses the power of sport to inspire young people in more than 150 projects in over 35 countries around the world. The charity’s very first patron was Nelson Mandela, who said: “Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to unite people in a way that little else does. Sport can create hope when once there was only despair.”

To support the worthy cause, Walker, is offering one lucky bidder this once in a lifetime opportunity – and CharityStars is delighted to facilitate his generous donation.
