The event highlight on the Cote d’Azur this month is without question the wildly popular “Fête de la Musique” which takes place Sunday 21st June.
This popular global event began in Paris in 1982 and was founded by the social French cultural minister Jack Lang. The street party takes place each year on the 21st of June, marking the first day of summer. This year the summertime musical event is expected to draw in music lovers in 540 cities worldwide! The event is free and open to all musicians, professional and amateur.
Each year is given a theme – 2012 was the year of Pop Music, 2013 the year of “the Voice”, and last year urban music was put forward. This year the theme will be ” Unity through Music”, a great opportunity to celebrate the origins of the festival 🙂
The streets of Antibes and surrounding towns will be filled with all styles of music. Cannes will host an electro party on the beach, and a rave party is even planned on the legendary Pinède of Juan les Pins. For those of you who have never been to the “Fete de la Musique” make the most of it this year! There will be drinks and snacks, free dancing and most importantly free music so get your dancing shoes on this June! Children of all ages are welcome.
