Celebrities, cocktails and racing combine for a weekend of Formula 1 action

Famed Israeli model Bar Refaeli was one of the celebrity guests joining Formula 1 driver Felipe Massa during a weekend of Formula 1 entertainment at Marina Port Vell.  This eclectic concoction of live music, club DJ’s, Martini cocktails, fast cars, tapas and street fun mixed in with the yachts, owners, guest and crew created an amazing party atmosphere that kicked of the summer cruising season in style.

Berths were full with over 60 additional yachts booked at the marina over the weekend to take advantage of the sunshine and racing; many hosting the F1 teams between hectic race schedules.

The weekend kicked off on Thursday with the Martini Racing Terrazza, located between Sota Muralla and Spanish Quay, showcasing tapas by who many consider the world’s best tapas chef, Albert Adrià, accompanied by exclusive new Martini cocktail creations.

Yacht owners joined Barcelona’s socially elite and press for a F1 presentation, followed by the first global Martini bartender competition at OneOcean’s BlueWave cocktail bar where more than 50 international bartenders attended.

Friday welcomed almost 100 guests, including superyacht owners and captains, at OneOcean Club for the annual Yacht Rendezvous gala dinner by the International Seakeepers Society which highlighted the Discovery Yachts’ mission.  Throughout the weekend there were many supercars gracing the docks including a couple of McLaren 360S, a Ferrari California, an AC Cobra, Maserati’s, AMG A45 Mercedes to mention but a few.

“Marina Port Vell and the new OneOcean Club are well set up to take on major events like the F1. I had a great time over the weekend and would love to come back again next year to start the summer season,” says the Owner of 41-metre yacht Komokwa, Brian O’Sullivan.

“There was such a wonderful atmosphere at the gala dinner – it’s unusual to have such a fine-dining experience within a marina, so close to the yachts,” says the captain of 50-metre motor yacht Septimus, Jamie Whitehead.

The fun continued on Sunday at OneOcean Club as more than 300 members, guests and F1 teams gathered to enjoy chilled out music by DJs, tapas and cocktails as the sun set over the city.
