Three types of molecules determine the colour of our skin: melanin – our skin pigment, haemoglobin – our red blood cells, and carotenoids – the yellow, orange and red plant pigments.

These molecules not only give our skin its unique tones but also play a vital role in protecting it from environmental stressors, such as UV radiation. Together with flavonoids, polyphenols and vitamins C and E, carotenoids fuel the Antioxidant Network of our skin, the first line of defence against environmental stress and UV damage. The antioxidant network is a key component of the overall Photoprotective System in our skin. This is a sophisticated network of processes designed to limit and repair sun damage.

Studies on human skin show that the majority of dietary carotenoids accumulate in the outermost skin layer – the stratum corneum. Situated there, carotenoids work as antioxidants as well as sun-screening molecules, absorbing UV radiation and dissipating it as heat, just like in plants.

But, you don’t just have to eat plants to get these benefits. Studies show that the most effective way to increase the levels of phytochemicals in our skin is by applying them topically.

Two of the biggest benefits of topical antioxidant application are:

  • The skin attains much higher antioxidant levels than is possible with oral supplementation. Topical application of carotenoids or vitamins C or E can result in levels 10-40 times those achievable with supplements.
  • The reservoir of antioxidants cannot be washed off and stays in the skin for up to 10 days after application.

From Scientific Enquiry to Skincare Innovation

After years of studying the Photoprotective System and the phytochemicals that support it, Quantum Pi was born: a concentrated and waterless All-in-One serum formulated to increase hydration, even skin tone, and smooth out fine lines and wrinkles while protecting the skin against UV and Blue Light damage.

Unlike traditional sunscreens that use chemicals or minerals to form a shield on top of the skin, Quantum Pi supports the built-in defences of our skin, making it more resilient to UV damage.

Think about it this way: If traditional sunscreen is like putting up a shield to protect yourself from a storm, Quantum Pi is like reinforcing the foundation of your house to make it more resistant to the storm’s impact. The formula is powered by three Clinically Tested Actives and 30+ of nature’s most Phytonutrient-rich botanical extracts to deliver visible results.

Sun’Alg® uses Astaxanthin to protect against UV & Digital Blue Light skin damage, Sytenol® A (Bakuchiol) boasts anti-ageing and regenerative potential superior to retinoids, and Algomega Np® repairs and strengthens the skin barrier function.

Quantum Pi’s unique approach to photoprotection goes beyond its impressive ingredients. By boosting the Antioxidant Network of our skin, Quantum Pi helps combat the harmful effects of UV light and protects against collagen and elastin depletion while increasing your skin’s resilience to damage.

With Quantum Pi, you can protect your skin from UV and Blue Light damage at all times – not just when you apply it. So if you’re looking for a skincare solution that supports the most important protective system in your skin, try Quantum Pi today.
