CEO of DeckProject and Mida Yacht Concept

I’m thrilled to share through The Islander this interview with Nikita Achkasov, CEO of DeckProject and partner Mida Yacht Concept Group. Specialists in both modern teak deck technologies and installation, as well as intricate interior furnishings for yachts, Nikita was recently the star of Miss Yacht Show through a documentary filmed in Dubai, showcasing the exciting expansion of his yachting company in the Middle East. Today we’ll be talking about the challenges and opportunities that come with expanding into this dynamic and growing market, and gaining insights from Nikita’s wealth of experience in the industry.

Let’s start with the big question – why did you decide to expand your business to Dubai?

Well, Sophianna, the Middle East is one of the fastest growing regions in the world for luxury yachts. Dubai, in particular, has become a hub for yacht owners and enthusiasts, with its world-class marinas and infrastructure. We saw a great opportunity to bring our expertise in yacht refit and construction to this market and provide the same level of quality and service that we offer in Europe.

So how would you describe the market for yachting services in Dubai?

It’s definitely a competitive market, with many established companies offering a wide range of services. But we believe that our experience and expertise in both traditional and modern techniques set us apart. We’re also very focused on customer service and ensuring that our clients are completely satisfied with the work we do.

What about the labor market in Dubai? Is it easy to find skilled workers?

It can be a challenge, but we’ve been fortunate to find some really talented individuals who are passionate about yacht building and refit. We’re also investing in training programs to help develop the skills of our workforce and to ensure that we can continue to offer the highest level of quality.

What about the materials? Are there any differences in what you use in Dubai compared to what you use in Europe?

There are some differences in brands and quality. The only thing we should understand is how to adapt the temperature during the production process. Then on superyachts is everything under perfect climate control so as not to affect any material.

So what are some of the benefits of expanding your business to Dubai?

Well, for one, it allows us to tap into a new market and reach a whole new group of potential clients. It also gives us the opportunity to work on some really exciting projects, like refitting and upgrading some of the incredible superyachts that are based in Dubai. And of course, there’s the potential for growth and expansion as the market continues to develop.

And what about the challenges? Are there any particular obstacles that you’ve had to overcome in expanding to Dubai?

There are always challenges when you’re starting a new business in a new market. One of the biggest challenges for us has been building relationships and establishing ourselves as a trusted and reliable partner in the industry. We’ve had to work hard to prove ourselves and earn the trust of our clients. But I think we’re on the right track and we’re already seeing some great results.

So how do you see the future of the yachting industry in the Middle East?

I think it’s a very exciting time for the industry in this region. There’s a lot of growth and development happening, with new marinas and infrastructure being built all the time. I believe that Dubai and the rest of the Middle East will continue to be a major player in the yachting world for years to come, and we’re excited to be a part of that growth.

Nikita, it’s been a pleasure talking with you. Thanks for sharing your insights and experiences with us.

Thank you, Sophianna. It’s been a pleasure speaking with you as well.
