Enjoying the luxury of your ‘own’ 50ft yacht but without the drawbacks of owning one yourself. It almost sounds too good to be true, but it really can be done. “By joining the Scorpion Yacht Club, you can sail away and enjoy the privacy of your own boat,” says yacht builder Dirk Oerlemans, founder of Scorpion Yachts. “But without all the hassle and additional high costs.”
As a member of the Scorpion Yacht Club, you can have access to the latest Scorpion Yacht designs, ranging from 40 to 50 feet, which are ready and waiting for you in Mallorca and Ibiza, among other places. “We take care of mooring, insurance, maintenance, service, any repairs and cleaning, so that all you need to do is enjoy all the benefits.” Including first and foremost, of course, a big financial advantage. “If you are the owner of a 50ft yacht, the costs per month can quickly add up to around €10,000 and, when chartering, around €3,000 per day. As a member of the SYC, however, you only pay €2,800, with guaranteed sailing at least eight times a month, from any port where the SYC has moorings.” And if you choose not to sail in July and August yourself, you can even recoup up to 20% of your annual cost as a charter bonus…. “Because then we can use the boats for external charters,” Dirk says.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
As a member of the SYC, you can book a boat very easily via our mobile app, in all the ports where we have moorings – with or without a skipper. Initially, you always sail with a skipper on board who also takes care of the cleaning, until you pass our ‘skipper exam’ and are allowed to sail on your own. The idea, then, is that you are always on board yourself, taking a maximum of eleven guests along with you. With your party, you can then enjoy a wonderfully casual day -a half-day or a full day- on the water, using everything on board at your disposal, including snorkelling gear, wakeboards, sups, tubes and a scuba jet, to then simply return the boat (fully refuelled) to the harbour afterwards.
