It is with particular pleasure that we would like to inform you about a recent initiative taken by the MYBA Charter Show. It all began with the desire to give something back to Barcelona, the beautiful city that hosts the MYBA Charter Show. Our event revolves around luxury but that doesn’t stop us from looking further than the marina, into the life of Barcelona and caring about it. So with the assistance of the Show organisers, Marina Port Vell, we examined a list of worthwhile causes and selected to express our sentiments by supporting the “Amics de la Gent Gran” (Friends of the Elderly).
The “Amics de la Gent Gran” is a volunteer organisation that has been active since 1987 and it dedicates its efforts to improving the quality of life of the elderly, one of the groups most affected by the pandemic. During 2020, “Amics de la Gent Gran” offered emotional support through weekly visits and telephone calls to more than 2,700 elderly people. And they also organised 549 socialisation and awareness activities in 108 municipalities. That is indeed life-changing work and we want to help them to continue.
As a first step, the MYBA Charter Show will be offering financial support to the “Amics de la Gent Gran” to be used for socialisation projects such as events to celebrate important occasions (Les Falles , Sant Jordi , Sant Joan and Christmas Day) and “Friends Holidays” in the summer. “Friends Holidays” are particularly significant as they provide the elderly with the opportunity to leave their homes, enjoy workshops and activities, establish new bonds of friendship and share experiences.
Raising awareness about this important cause is the second step and one that we would like your assistance with. Sharing this news will inspire more people to contribute, generate more funds and ultimately make a difference to many peoples’ lives.
