The dock limits traffic inside the harbour to 3 knots with a pilot device based on those used on the road.
The Marina de València has installed a prototype of a marine radar to supervise that the traffic in its interior does not exceed three knots of speed. The waters of the inner channel of the historic port are busy all year round, but especially in the summer months.
Private sailing and motor boats, school and charter boats, rowing boats and canoes, as well as paddle surfers and numerous groups of all ages who come to learn and practice water sports, members of the València Fishermen’s Guild, pilots, regatta teams, tugboats and superyachts coexist every day in the waters of the marina. For safety and respect for the environment, the Marina de València has decided to install a device to regulate the speed inside the marina.
For the time being, this is a pilot device that regulates the circulation so that it does not exceed the maximum established speed and, in the coming months, it is planned to put this service out to public tender.
This pilot device is the same as the one used by the Guardia Civil in its daily work, which has been adapted to maritime traffic, and is capable of instantly capturing and photographing the passage of vessels, allowing seamen to warn them of speeding or to take the appropriate measures.
There are also plans to install illuminated signs indicating the maximum permitted speed, as is the case on conventional roads.
“Valencians have decided that one of the best places for children to spend the summer is La Marina de València. Our schools and activity companies have a large influx and we are delighted because as a public space we want to accommodate all visitors, but the first thing is safety, so to be able to coexist we believe it is necessary to regulate the speed of the boats that circulate,” says German Gil, boatswain of La Marina de València.
