39 MAPFRE Copa del Rey Palma

Copa Del Rey 2021

The first day of competition of the 39th Copa del Rey MAPFRE presents a menu of two races for all classes except the Herbalife J70 and Mallorca Sotheby’s Women’s Cup, which will attempt three. The forecast indicates good conditions in the bay: “We have a clear report from Embat, South of 12 to 15 knots, which could reach 17 knots in the afternoon”, explains the regatta director, Gaspar Morey. The report makes good the opinion of the sailors, who insist on praising the reliability of the Mallorcan wind. “To guarantee the organization on the water, the team directed by Morey has “about fifteen people in each zone, plus the Jurys, measurers,…. Between 60 and 70 people, apart from skippers of press boats, VIP boats…. In total, between 100 and 120 people”.

This year, the playing field will be distributed in three areas: Alpha (the closest to Palma), Bravo (in front of S’Arenal) and Charlie (in the center of the bay). “We have designed three areas of the same size so that the classes can rotate throughout the week and test the conditions of the whole bay with the aim of making it as fair as possible for everyone.”

Taking to the water are 16 ClubSwan 50 class boats, 11 ClubSwan 42, 10 ClubSwan 36, 12 BMW ORC 1, 14 BMW ORC 2, 18 BMW ORC 3, 7 IRC 1, 11 Mallorca Sotheby’s Women’s Cup and 6 Herbalife J70. In total, 105 boats for the nine crowns at stake.

Today the BMW ORC 3, Mallorca Sotheby’s Women’s Cup and Herbalife J70 classes make their debut in the Alpha area; in Bravo, IRC 1 and BMW ORC 1 and 2; in Charlie, the three ClubSwan categories.

The first starting signal is scheduled for 13:00h.
