News from Hoek Design Naval Architects – Expedition yacht ‘Blue II’ launched

We hope you are all well in these challenging times for everyone. In the past two months we have learned a lot about how to work remote and communicate better and function in these unprecedented circumstances, which will also be of benefit in the future. We realize it has been difficult for everyone in a changing society where travel, sustainability and the way we work will be different to what we were used to before the COVID-19 outbreak.

Due to the easing restrictions as announced by the Dutch Government, we started work in the office again at the time we sent this news update with appropriate measures and restrictions in distance. We are happy the worst outbreak effects are gradually receding.

Our priority is to keep our client’s dreams alive and to use the “free space” to develop new and creative ideas, some of which you will see in this brief news update.

Our projects that are under construction are all moving forward although some with short delays. We are very pleased to see our various partners, shipyards, suppliers, contractors and others to make huge efforts to deliver the projects that we create.

Just launched 184 ft expedition yacht ‘Blue II’

Just launched this week is the 184 ft classic expedition motor yacht ‘Blue II’ which was built by Turquoise Yachts in Istanbul. She is a unique new concept of a great looking timeless classically styled motor yacht that is built to the highest quality standards and has many technically unique features such as diesel electric propulsion, side boarding platforms, underdecks storage of two large tenders, jet ski’s etc. with her steel hull built to Ice class. More information will follow later.

50 m ketch ‘Meraki’

In January this year the 163 ft ketch ‘Meraki’ that was built at Vitters Shipyard was launched successfully and trial sails have been ongoing until the COVID-19 outbreak. ‘Meraki’ was built to extremely high standards and we were fortunate and grateful to have been involved with the owner and his team, Vitters and all their subcontractors, Dick Young of Rhoades Young Design and others on this magnificent project. We hope to show you more about this yacht in later press outings.

Truly Classic 128 series

Next to be launched is the third yacht of a Truly Classic 128 design. The yacht has been built at SES Yachts in Istanbul and is also nearing completion, expected launch about late Summer 2020. Her aluminium hull has been built in The Netherlands by Bloemsma Aluminiumbouw. SES Yachts has been finishing the yacht to very high-quality standards indeed. We are very proud to have worked together with her very involved owner and are keen to see this yacht to hit the water.

The fourth yacht built to the Truly Classic 128 design is the second TC 128 under construction at Pendennis Shipyards in the UK and also due to be launched this Summer. She is a further development of the other three Truly Classic yachts to our design in this length. The yacht is highly customized and built for one of our repeat clients.

76 ft ketch ‘Iltchi’

A very interesting, yet completely different design is the 76 ft aluminium ketch ‘Iltchi’ under construction by Aluboot in The Netherlands. This yacht is designed and built for long-distance deep ocean cruising and is unique in concept. She boasts a very large cockpit area directly connecting to an open plan deckhouse which incorporates the galley and dining area. With a very modern interior to our design this completely custom-built high-quality yacht is due to be launched early June.
