Japan declares state of emergency

Following the decision to postpone the Tokyo 2020 Games one year, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has now declared a month-long state of emergency for Tokyo and six other prefectures on April 7 to ramp up defenses against the spread of the coronavirus as the number of infections surges. The COVID-19 outbreak is now rampant and rapidly spreading, threatening people’s health, their daily lives and the economy, Abe said. Full report.
