The MHC’s organizers are as passionate about minimizing plastic waste on the island as they are about putting on a show of roaring multihulled rockets. This is why the MHC will, once again, be a (Sailors for the Sea-certified) Clean Regatta. Moreover, the regatta will be aiming towards gold level certification this year! This means both event organizers and event-host Port Adriano are highly committed to encouraging and facilitating crew to cut down on the use of single-serve plastic. A few of the implemented initiatives include Port Adriano’s ‘Green Team’, CleanWave’s 600-litre water station and competitors’ donation of a Seabin, an ingenious device which cleans up the mess that sadly ends up in our waters.
The Seabin Project, brainchild of Mallorca-based Andrew Turton and Pete Ceglinski, can trap everything that floats in a marina’s waters, (including fuel and detergent) 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 days a year. In fact, just one Seabin has the capability to trap 90,000 plastic bags, 35,700 disposable cups, 16,500 plastic bottles and 166,500 plastic utensils per year. Superyacht marina Port Adriano already has two Seabins and received a Corporate Social Responsibility Award for its partnership with the Seabin Project from the outset.
North Sails help take regatta’s greenness
to the next level
As a company that powers more race wins than any other sailmaker, it’s no wonder that (like many other racers with an appetite for victory) most Multihull Cup competitors rely on North Sails’ superior products and cutting-edge technology.
Not only a pioneer in sail-design and market leader for race sails, North also operate in such a way that all its activities cause the least harm to the environment. It’s no surprise then that the company is taking the regatta’s greenness to the next level by sponsoring entrants’ sleek stainless-steel water bottles and CleanWave’s mammoth-sized water station. The latter will provide enough fresh water to quench the thirst of a hundred sailors for the duration of the regatta, no less.
The Multihull Cup will take place in Port Adriano from the 30th of August until the 1st of September 2019. Connect with us on Facebook and Instagram for updates of all the action on and off the racecourse and/or follow the race live via Trac Trac.
