In terms of the Taiwanese superyacht building sector over recent decades, Johnson Yachts Co Ltd, which recently celebrated 30 years, is without doubt a survivor.

The company currently has two new Bill Dixon-designed models in build, including the Johnson 115, the company’s new flagship, and the Johnson 70. The Taiwanese builder puts its success over three decades down to great design, sound engineering and top-quality craftsmanship.

In this anniversary year, the company has taken a number of significant steps related to sustaining its future. This included starting work on the Johnson 70 in January, the launch of the new entry-level Johnson 80 model in May, and the start of construction of the Johnson 115 in June.

The company considers that the Johnson 115 will underpin its leadership in the design and building of large volume yachts. Johnson Yachts was one of the pioneers in developing such models and the 115 continues the trend with a series of new features including the options of five or six staterooms and a high-level of customisation being possible.

In addition, the Johnson 70 welcomes new owners to the excitement of custom construction and built-to-order design. The new Johnson 70 makes the most of her LOA and capitalises on an 5.5m (18.25ft) beam to offer a choice of three or four staterooms.

The Johnson 115 is currently a spec build but this completely redesigned yacht includes a new hull and an exterior by Dixon Yacht Design. She will have a striking plumb bow that carries her volume far forward, maximising her space for her length overall. The tri-deck profile includes large windows, protected by bulwarks with inlaid glazing to allow improved lines of sight from the main deck. The sky lounge utilises the wrap-around vertical window design that has become a hallmark of Johnson Yachts. The interior design is by Design Unlimited.

Both of these new models benefit from the yacht builder’s ongoing relationship with Dixon Yacht Design, where Bill Dixon lends his refined sensibility to the exterior lines with a look that captures the excitement of the future while adhering to the romance of the past. Johnson Yachts also works with the British studio, Design Unlimited, that has a unique understanding of interior space.

Johnson Yachts has a state-of-the-art yard measuring 12,600sq m that can fit up to six 40m (130ft) yachts simultaneously. The yard has two test pools for initial testing of all equipment, as well as four bridge cranes for lifting heavy equipment. The yard is just 400m away, or less than one-quarter mile, from the nearest marina, which makes it much easier to launch the yacht and conduct sea trials than other yards.
