Y/Yachts presents the Tripp design Y7 for the first time – By Michael Schmidt
The Palma International Boat Show and the Palma Superyacht Show mark the start of the season on the Balearic Islands for many yacht owners and those who want to become one. From 27 April to 1 May, the Marina Moll Vell below Palma Cathedral will again be filled with numerous exhibits between five and 50 metres in length.
One of the highlights this year will be the nearly 22-metre-long Y7 from Y/Yachts in Ladebow/Baltic Sea. The carbon construction from the shipyard of sailing legend Michael Schmidt will be presented to a wider public for the first time after she left the Baltic Sea coast at the beginning of April.
The Y7 was developed in collaboration with US designer Bill Tripp, who has already launched numerous yachts between 15 and 86 metres in length. The briefing for the Y7 was: comfortable sailing behaviour combined with competitive sailing performance, also on the regatta circuit.
All halyards, sheets and stretchers run concealed to the steering columns on the Y7. This means that the helmsman can operate the yacht alone at any time – which is certainly not a matter of course for a 70-foot yacht. With about 28.5 tons and almost 300 square meters of sail area, the Y7 spends sailing fun even in light winds. Of course, the carbon yacht is also equipped with carbon fiber masts and boom as standard.
Below deck the Y7 also has a very modern atmosphere. For the interior design, the Y7 owner engaged the Danish and award-winning team of Norm Architects. The Copenhagen designers created a reduced ambience with a Scandinavian touch that is unparalleled on yachts of this size.
Anyone who wants to get a first impression of the extraordinary Y7 is welcome to visit Y/Yachts at the Palma International Boat Show from 27 April to 1 May. You will find the team and the yacht at booth 125, L23. To arrange a meeting please call Marcus Krall / Krall Media (see below) or Hans-Ulrich Heisler on board: +34 661 27 59 70.
