Dear Islander,

This month sees us getting stuck in to the planning of our “ Islander Nauti-Fest” event from April 21 st – 24th at The Boathouse on the Paseo Maritimo, Palma.
The event will consist of a Crew and Superyacht Services Show on the evening of 21st and all day on the Friday the 22nd, followed by a two day Boat Jumble over the weekend of the 23rd and 24th, giving individuals and companies the opportunity of selling off their amassed mountains of boating related gear. Stands will cost just 75 euros per day, and will attract a big attendance from around the island. There will be lots of other fun amusements for all the family including a Boathouse all day BBQ.
The Crew and Superyacht Services Show will give crew the opportunity to find placements for the forthcoming season, as well as the chance to discuss career paths with industry experts. There will also be the opportunity for yacht services companies, including several from the UK, to showcase their business at low cost and without the commitment of the time and expense of the Palma Superyacht & Boat Show. We have partnered with ACREW for the show who are sure to attract a large number of crew from their vast database to come along and discuss all aspects of training and employment in the industry. We will also make sure there are plenty of fun moments during the show with yacht chef cook offs, team building games and much more.
We will have firm details and pricing of stands by next month’s issue at the latest.
January has seen another London Boat Show come and go, with yours truly visiting for the first time in five years. The show has shrunk considerably since my last visit, and I just feel the show is now at a point where its survival in its current guise is on a knife edge. If one of the “Big Boys” pull out, I cannot see the show surviving in its current format. Surely a shorter show, say five days should be considered, so exhibitors can cut their costs considerably, and it will also become more attractive to potential new clients.
As I pen this, Dusseldorf Boat Show opens for business next weekend, and seems to be going from strength to strength, with many yacht builders and other players in the industry saying it’s the most important show of the year for them. Strange how this is completely at odds with London . We will have a report in next month’s issue.
Fair Winds.
