Dear Islander….

I cannot believe I am already writing the final editorial of 2016, just where has this year gone ??!!
As I write this in mid-November, just prior to the annual trip to the METS in Amsterdam, we are still blessed with temperatures allowing a swim without turning blue ! We are so lucky to live in such a wonderful place.
FLIBS in Fort Lauderdale, held in early November, has had good reviews and the local businesses I have spoken to say it was a big improvement on 2015 as regards the Superyacht sector of the market. Next show on the list is The Antigua Charter Show, which The Islander will be attending for the first time. We are keen to feature more news and articles from across the pond during the Caribbean season, as so many of our local yachts in the Western Med make the trip across at this time of the year. We wish all those yachts a safe trip.
Locally, we saw Acrew put on a great 3 day event in early November providing training workshops for yacht crew here in Palma at The Boathouse. This was a great venue for such an event, and I am pleased to announce that The Islander is putting on a “ Nauti- Fest” at this venue from 21 st to 24th April 2017.
The event will consist of a 2 day show at The Boathouse for yacht service companies, large and small, along with crew training and recruitment businesses providing crew with opportunities to find placements for the season, plus some great talks by truly inspiring personalities from the world of yachting. We are very excited about the event and are confident it will be a success for all participating businesses. Acrew will also be hosting crew workshops within the show. More details to follow in our next issue !!
This will be followed by a two day “ Boat Jumble” on the weekend of 23rd & 24th April, again at The Boathouse, where you can book a stand and bring along any unwanted yachting gear you want to dispose of. Stands will be very reasonably priced and will be open to businesses and individuals alike. This will be a great opportunity to clear out your containers, sheds, lockers etc and turn it into a few euros.
Well, all that remains is for us all at The Islander to wish our readers, contributors and advertisers a happy festive season and a health 2017 !

Fair Winds !
