Dear Islander,
Well, by the time you read this we will know the results of the Great Brexit debate, and have witnessed the initial fall out one way or the other! I’m sure our financial guru’s will have full reports in next month’s issue!
We will also have completed this year’s edition of The Palma Superyacht Cup, and event I always look forward to. We will publish a full report with a photo gallery in next month’s issue of The Islander. The Copa Del Rey is the next big local regatta on the horizon, another great spectacle for the Bay of Palma, with almost 200 yachts expected for this year’s event.
The charter season is now well and truly underway with a very busy season being reported so far by the local charter brokers for yachts of all sizes. This, coupled with another increase in charter licences being issued bodes well for the whole of Spain, at long last ! This activity is also being reflected in the sparsity of berths in most marina’s where the “Marina Full” signs are going up around the island. In this issue we have included an article on chartering for the “Mere Mortals” which looks at a way of affording a Superyacht charter.
As we go to press, MYBA announced yesterday that the charter show is moving from Genoa to Ocean One Port Vell Marina, Barcelona. This is a great boost for both the marina in Barcelona, and Spain as a whole. It will hopefully help restore the reputation of Spain, and the Balearics in particular, as a great charter destination and dispel the myths which have built up in recent years regarding the difficulties and risks of chartering in Spain. This is very good news indeed. Let’s hope the dates no longer clash with the Palma Boatshow !
By the time this issue hits the streets we will have held the first of our “ Nauti-Nights” at The Boathouse. The idea of these events is to create a great networking opportunity for those of us who work in the Nautical Industry as well as have a good fun night out at a reasonable cost. The Boathouse is the ideal venue for these events, being midway along the Paseo Maritimo. Keep your eyes on our Facebook page for news on the next event .
Sadly this month we have to pass on our condolences to Diego Colon , the well known general manager of Astilleros de Mallorca, and his family who lost their son recently to a short illness aged just 37.
Fair Winds
