Driving Mallorca Club Manager

Driving Mallorca, the island-based performance and classic car club, has appointed Hamish Goddard as their new Club Manager, with a brief to develop the Club’s growing membership and to put together an ambitious and enjoyable programme heading into 2016. The Club currently has over 100 exotic high-performance and classic cars within its membership, plus a host of specific competition vehicles.

Hamish has held a lifelong passion for motorsport, both in cars and motorbikes. He attended the Ian Taylor Racing Drivers School for single-seaters at Thruxton as an 18 year old, and has since taken part in innumerable track days at Silverstone, Brands Hatch, Thruxton and Goodwood in a variety of formula, performance and classic cars.

He developed and managed the F1 Chelsea Indoor Karting venue in London – a favourite for many Formula One teams’ Christmas parties – which took the whole industry to new levels of technology, sophistication and hospitality. The circuit also enjoyed Royal patronage when it became the track of choice for Diana Princess of Wales and the young Princes, with Prince William becoming the outright lap-record holder for the circuit as a 13 year old.

He pursued a sports marketing and sponsorship career as an Account Director for a London-based agency, working for sponsors of some of the world’s most prestigious events including Ryder Cup Golf, the Winter Olympics, Jules Verne Yachting and the Benetton Formula One Team, specialising in sponsorship exploitation, corporate hospitality, event management and media promotions.

Never one to miss an opportunity to satisfy his interest in contemporary and historic motorsport, on his return from the start of a new sailing career in Greece in 2015, he followed the classic Mille Miglia route up through Italy over the Futa and Raticosa passes, visited Ferrari at Maranello, paid homage at the Ayrton Senna Memorial at Imola, walked the historic banking at Monza and thereafter made his way back to England via the Porsche production line and the Mercedes Museum in Stuttgart, as well as both the old and new circuits at the Nurburgring and Spa Francorchamps.

Plans for next year include regular track days at Circuito Llucmajor, closed-road rallies, regular classic and performance car outings on the island, and the creation of driving trips to the Spanish mainland where members can experience the current and former Formula One circuits at Circuit de Catalunya and Montjuic Park in Barcelona, and the steeply-banked historic Autodromo de Sitges-Terramar circuit at Sitges.
