Bluewater Palma is currently the only maritime school approved to deliver the SV Workshop Skills Training Course.
Ely Arcal, Palma’s Operational Manager, says “we are so excited to announce that you can now book the brand-new Workshop Skills Training course in Palma, a requirement for the Small Vessel route”.
John Wyborn, one of Bluewater’s founders and the Director of Training, continues “we are delighted to be the first training provider to offer the workshop. Our team has been instrumental in liaising with the MCA and developing the elements for the SV route. The workshop course is the final piece in the jigsaw to enable engineers to meet the criteria for their NoE.”
The pilot for the 10-day SV Workshop Skills Training Course starts on 5th September 2022.
Training Manager, Sophie Allerton, explains who needs this course:, “this is a requirement for Engineer Officer of the Watch Small Vessel candidates. Anyone on this route will have to complete this course, unless granted exemption due to prior workshop skills training”.
Frequently asked questions about the SV Workshop Skills Training Course:
Q: How have engineers previously fulfilled this requirement?
A: Workshop skills have always been required for the SV EOOW qualification, but until recently yacht engineers were able to use the old Y4 skills workshop, during the transition from the old ‘Y’ route to the new ‘SV’ route. This option will no longer be accepted from September.
Q: At what stage of the SV route can this course be taken?
A: This course can be taken before or after registration on to the SV route.
Q: What does this course cover?
A: This course provides students with basic theoretical knowledge and practical hands-on experience, using workshop related activities, in order to meet the requirements of the MCA (Maritime and Coastguard Agency) for the EOOW Small Vessel Certificate of Competency.
Yacht engineers are able to complete the full experienced seafarer SV route with Bluewater.
