The North Dock Marine Services building has become a recognisable and easily accessed facility in the STP refit and repair yard since earlier this year. Already the companies in North Dock are saying that that the decision to give their shared place of business an identity of its own is paying off. More and more enquiries and orders are coming their way, as captains and owners reps can drop by at any time, and find a whole array of services and products under one roof, and being offered by a varied mix of independent well established companies.

 

But although the combined identity of the building is quite a recent development, the track record and antiquity of the companies inside it certainly isn’t!

For instance, Jose Alcina started Anicla Distribuciones over 40 years ago, back in 1975. Later on in 2011 the company had the foresight to open up a store in STP, in order to give a dedicated professional service providing paints, coatings, cleaning chemicals, application equipment and anodes for large yachts undergoing works in the yard.

 

Anicla has invested in a fully computerised paint mixing system in-house which can mix any type of paint, such as polyurethanes, synthetic, acrylic, epoxy, etc. They can even match a required colour from the smallest sample without a reference number, using their fully calibrated spectrometer device.

 

The company are official dealers for Festool, Rupes, and Devilbiss. They also offer an onsite machine repair service, so every aspect of paint finishing is provided for.

 

For most painting jobs a means of safe and secure access is required, and this is where another North Dock company with a long track record can provide the solutions. Munditubo were founded in 1982 and for well over three decades have been specialising in the installation of all types of scaffoldings and detachable metallic structures.

Munditubo pride themselves on being able to adapt their scaffolding to a variety of geometric configurations, and can also complete the access and control aspects of the project by providing customised temporary covers for protection during repair and maintenance works.   Also based in Barcelona the company has developed its unique approach to access and protection schemes by completing major projects in aeronautic, naval and civil engineering environments.

 

Palmawatch S.L – a yacht maintenance, repair and refit specialist housed in the North Dock Building have been carrying out projects in Palma de Mallorca for 16 years.

 

A look at the ‘mini-refit’ job list that Palmawatch have recently completed on a Sunseeker Predator 108, over a period of just one month, is probably a good example of the variety of work that can be carried out at the North Dock:

During the same period a Jongert 20s was hauled out for hull and tank metal plating work further to surveyor’s instructions. Planning of full cockpit refit (wood and metal works). Bow thruster repair (shaft and bearing damaged).

And several Oysters have been hauled out as well, with various lists of works including underwater antifouling treatment, transom re-spray, new interior soft furniture, etc.
