DAME Design Award at METS 2015

The prestigious DAME Design Award competition is back once again at this year’s METS. The awards aim to promote design across all disciplines in the maritime industry, with nominated products judged by a comprehensive panel of experts.

This year, a total of 51 products have been nominated to go forward for final judging out of 110 entries; the jury will choose up to seven category winners and one overall winner. As part of their judging process, the jury will consider several factors, including the expected impact on the marine industry, their suitability for intended purpose, the level of innovation, the cost effectiveness and environmental impact.

Chairman of the DAME Awards Jury, Bill Dixon, explained how the process of judging entries this year had been challenging due to the strength of the products: “In several of the categories we found many well-designed items to consider, with prices ranging from just a few euros through to high-priced specialist equipment. The range of contenders provoked different responses from each member of our highly experienced jury, whose professional knowledge spans everything from naval architecture, interior design, end-user application and boat manufacturing to industrial design. We eventually reached a consensus, but only after a great deal of discussion!”

This year also marks the 25th anniversary of the DAME Awards. The awards will be presented at the ICOMIA-METSTRADE Breakfast Briefing on the first day of the METS, hosted in the Amsterdam RAI from 17th to 19th November.
