On both days of the event, Nicholas Stael von Holstein and Amanda Hewson from Medical Support Offshore (MSOS) facilitated first aid refreshers for all crew.  Medical kits were used to demonstrate how best to utilise the equipment in dealing with fractures. The demonstration focussed on utilizing Stretchers and Splinting devices that can be used to isolate an injury. Medical Support Offshore has thirty years experience in offering medical support and has supported iconic yacht races such as the Volvo Ocean Race. The services offered by MSOS are medical kits, 24/7 telemedical support and specialist medical training.

We are in a very particular time in the world of marine fuel and things are changing very fast because the United Nations (UN) and the International Maritime Organization (IMO) are advocating the reduction of emissions from vessels to reduce emissions that are harmful for both the environment and humans. As this is such a topical issue for captains and engineers there were 2 fuel focussed workshops during the event.

Firstly, Fuelcare delivered an interesting workshop on Marine Fuel Changes & Protecting Your Engine. The workshop examined changes in both fuel and the engine and how these will affect your vessel and its performance. This workshop also included engineering observations for superyachts and engineering protection for the future and a discussion on the changing fuel legislation in Europe.

GAC Superyacht Services gave an insightful workshop about fuel purchasing around the Med. The focus was about how yachts should be moving away from buying fuel just when it is required towards trying to plan fuelling options in advance, in order to benefit form the potential savings that can be achieved as a result of prior planning.  Murray from GAC used real life examples and lead a lively discussion well enjoyed by all the participants, most of whom were captains.
