It is interesting to see that the world’s largest Superyacht at 590 feet , Azzam, built by Lurssen Yachts in Germany, has chosen to spend the winter in the newly refurbished Port Tarraco in Tarragona, Spain. Azzam was constructed within a three year period, an amazing achievement for a yacht of this size. The cost is reported to have been the most expensive yacht ever built.
The marina at Port Tarraco has undergone a huge investment by its Qatari owners and now has some of the most advanced infrastructure and services of any marina in the world. It is a safe, sheltered deep water marina and can cater for the largest yachts afloat.
The well-known Motor Yacht “Katara” another Lurssen build of 405 feet, is also wintering in Port Tarraco, taking advantage of the new facilities and convenient location. And finally the third mega yacht visitor to Port Tarraco is Pelorus at 375 feet overall length . Commissioned by a Saudi Arabian businessman, Pelorus was also built at the Lürssen yard in Bremen, Germany to the design of Tim Heywood and launched in 2003.
Previously somewhat overlooked by many yachts, the new refurbished facilities at Port Tarraco are certainly gaining attention and the prestige of having three of the finest Motor yachts on the planet in their care, won’t do the marina any harm at all !
The marina is ideally situated in the heart of the Mediterranean with easy access from Barcelona Airport. Qatari Diar purchased Port Tarraco Marina, one of the few existing marinas in the western Mediterranean to offer deep water berthing for large, sophisticated super, mega and giga yachts.
Located on Spain’s Costa Dorada, or “Golden Coast”, 95 km south of Barcelona, the marina offers visitors a chance to explore the rich local Catalonian culture, visit the area’s many beaches, or travel to nearby mountains for hiking or skiing. The marina is positioned in close proximity to an airfield and is centrally located for immediate access to all major cruising destinations in the western Mediterranean. It is exclusively designed to provide large yachts with the best possible services and facilities, and boasts an array of leading amenities and excellent accessibility.
