Boat registration in Spain continues its upward trend. Spanish marine trade association ANEN has reported that registration in the July-August period was up 9.5% compared to the same period a year ago.

In the eight months to August, boat registrations were up 13.27% compared to the same period in 2013. The records show 3,516 registrations, 412 more than the same period last year.

The greatest growth was in the 16m-plus sector, with an increase of 47.83%. Boats up to 8m saw greater demand with 90.13% market share. With 3,169 vessels registered up to August, this segment grew by 13.22% during the period.

Charter boat registration grew by 62.68% up to August compared to this period in 2013 with 340 vessels. Motorboat registration rose by 2.75% in the period.

The figures were taken from the Spanish Maritime Authority’s latest boat registration report. The document also shows that the Balearics dominate taking a massive 14.65% of the national market for leisure boats, with Barcelona taking 11.75% and Cadiz 7.85% market share, respectively.
