Jim Clark – The New Face of Sailing?

Upon Jim Clark’s (J Class, HANUMAN) victory at St. Barth’s last year, Clark sent vibrations through the sailing world, announcing he was donating $800,000 to Sail To Prevail. The funds will assist for long-term plans for the national non-profit disabled sailing organization operated by two-time Paralympian and Harvard Business School graduate, Paul Callahan. Clark challenged others with capacity to “give back” an amount equal to their annual racing budget. Callahan reports Clark’s model is gaining traction. Sail To Prevail served 1,137 disabled people in 2013. Clark is the keynote speaker at the U.S. Sailing Leadership Forum in February. Is Clark’s bold leadership trumping sailing technology (i.e. AC34) with sailing philanthropy? www.sailtoprevail.org
