This year’s Super yacht Cup will be held June 18th – 21st in the bay of Palma, once again under the race management of RCNP,
arguably the best race management team in World Yachting. The feedback from many participants after the 2013 event was that they had never experienced such quality course setting and race management at any previous regatta. High praise indeed from some of the world’s top professional yachtsmen!
There are already 17 confirmed registrations, which is a very early and positive response. These entries are listed on http://www.thesuperyachtcup.com/
The Islander will be featuring a full “Runners and Riders” preview in the June issue of the magazine containing all the vital statistics and photographs of each boat plus a run down on the crews.
The J Class have confirmed the event as being their “Premier Event” of 2014 and two special cups will be presented as can be seen in the adjoining article.
This year’s event will have a new social format, with a special guest dinner at a Five Star water front Hotel on the Friday night, and a prize giving party on the dock after racing on the Saturday evening.
The returning sponsors are Astilleros de Mallorca, Rolling Stock, Reckmann, Classen Shipyard, Pantaenius Insurance and Gaastra. New additional sponsors will be announced very soon. Check out our website for future news http://www.theislander.net/ .
Two special Cups for J Class
This year’s Super Yacht Cup in Palma has been nominated by the J Class as their premier event of the season. To mark this event, there will be two very special and historical Cups presented to the winners, making it a very special occasion.
The “Corinthian Kings Cup” made by R & W Sorley of Glasgow in 1914 is a silver cup first presented by King George V to the Royal Clyde Yacht Club. This will be given to to the leading J Class for all four days racing with an amateur owner driver.
The “Kings Hundred Guinea Cup” made by Carington & Co of London in 1927 is made of silver gilt and was presented by King George VI for the Royal Yacht Squadron regatta in 1937. This will be presented to the first placed J Class on handicap on Wednesday 18th June.
We look forward to seeing these wonderful yachts doing battle again in June out in the Bay of Palma.
